Eager to get into the snow and the 6″ of fresh on Saturday was very welcome.
Out at 9:30am returning at 12:30p. Temp is 5 degrees,
I’m bundled too much and I will rework my layers for future days like this. Occasional finger numbness but hot everywhere else.
I was making first tracks nearly the entire ride, and only a few dog walkers on the trail. Round trip 12 mile ride along highline canal and dry creek trails.
I moved pressures to 8psi in back and 6psi in the front. The bike moved smoothly over the snow but extra effort required so I got a good cardio workout. I sweat anyway and a sock hat, then balaclava were too hot resulting in wet hat and hair. After warming up, I ride with bare head with ice, but I was comfy for the remaining ride home.
Hot herb tea in the new 40oz Hydro Flask which fits the Outdoor Research water bottle parka. Kept nice and hot. Makes a huge difference drinking hot water on a cold ride.
I fell only twice, once was a rut (common) I did not see, and the other was trying to pedal hard up a short hill and the pedal action moves the front wheel around. There is technique I will practice and keeping momentum is essential.
I put my new InReach device to use(GPS Beacon), and it texted by two boys. Also this is first post with Facebook sync so I don’t know how it will appear to friends.
Despite ice buildup on the rear cassette, no issues with the drive train although I was in only the 3 lowest gears.
Keep warm, E-
