Breaking In ride for new studded tires from Terrene

TRAILS: Denver’s Highline Canal trail on South side using Writers Square and base point.
SUMMARY:
After a long wait, there tires and wheels were ready for pickup. I prepped for a long ride and went out immediately after picking these up from Elevation Cycles. The studs were installed by Elevation from a 45North kit. The studded factory direct were backordered. The elevation tech told me the manufacturer recommends the first 20 miles avoid hard banking turns. Seems the studs have a ‘settle in’ time. And with the seasoning period for new Fat bike tires, I chose the canal and looped some segments to be sure a comfy break-in ride.

Notable improvement in tire grabbing power especially in mud. I climbed a steep packed snow hill without having to bail. I’m going to put these to good use and today’s ride was satisfying and I felt very safe in some icy situations that these tires would grab enough to keep me upright.

To celebrate the new rubber, I cleaned up at the local car wash to remove the mud before it dried hard.

TUNAGE: Jethro Tull, Foo Fighters
TERRAIN: All dirt, mud or packed snow along Highline Canal.
WEATHER: Great warmer day in 40’s. No gloves and removed the poagies.
PSI: 12 rear and front, by end of ride 10 rear, and 5 front. I’m monitoring pressures closely which is needed for the ‘seasoning’ of tubeless fat bike tires when new.
