Deer Creek Park – Jeffco trails throw down

Deer Creek Park – Jeffco trails are steep, rocky, with no finish. Just plain tough.

I’ve been here twice before, once in the winter on a fat bike (a fail), then half-way up on the mountain bike, and today the goal was to get to the top and try the large loop on the map.

It is a rocky and technical ride up a long trail. Once section actually has stairs and several sections are hike-n-bike for me.

But like most things, the Red Mesa loop trail at the top was awesome and worth the climb. These are lust green mountain areas with occasional great views that open up. Lots of pictures and clear weather in fall was the best.

Riding these trails risk damage to the the bike. Of course I like my skin also.
Red Mesa Loop has this meadow opening out view of the front range below.
Below near the red rock is another Jeffco trails open space. And Denver in horizon.
Trailside overlook. At the junction with Red Mesa Loop. Still more climbing to come.
The sun , shadows and bright leaves. When your there its magic. The photo is only close.
Hard shadows and the bright sun.
Surprisingly lush and green foliage at the top. The trail circles the Mesa which seemed more a hill. Old growth trees and dark canopy cover.
old growth, lots of fuel on the ground.
Lots of healthy trees and green grass. It snowed the next day.
Single track trail. Crossing the meadow.
I like meadows
Yep, more climbing up.
Hairpin turn on switchback. Jeffco trails allow bikes on most trails. No matter how crazy the terrain is. They just mark it as a ‘black run’ difficulty trail.
This conveys how bright the sun was illuminating certain things.

I think I see a bear? I did see bear scat on the trail, and it seemed fresh. Sign at the trailhead said there were some bears up here.
A classic Landscape shot looking East towards Denver. This trail is on the ‘foothills’ west of Denver. Common hogback hills can be seen below. Around 7,000 feet altitude with Denver below at 5280.
