Cheyenne Mtn State Park – CPW#7

June 2019 – Colorado State Park CPW#7 of 42.
South of Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Mountain has the huge underground complex of NORAD. But they don’t allow you to get close enough to see any of of it.

Another mild disappointment is that you cannot see Pike’s Peak as it is on the other side of Cheyenne Mountain. Located near Fort Morgan, there is 3X daily bugle recording blasted over the entire valley. 6am, 3pm, and 10pm. A mix of trails here and some are too rocky to bike.

Also visited a small museum at the entrance of Fort Logan with tanks, lots of em. Just 4 shown but there were about a dozen outside.

New Bucket List – Visit all 41 Colorado State Parks. Starting here and today.
Camping is high off the plains.
Cheyenne Mountain
Two very healthy and large wild Turkeys.
Cougars Shadow trail, a boulder fest.
Rocky trails demand a helmet. Check.
An Amphitheater at the top.
The Valley and Mountain below.
Your author.
Lots of these Gambel Oaks, more like shrubs no more than 8 ft tall. Everywhere.
From the equestrian trail looking north to Cheyenne mtn.
Horse trails make good biking trails.
How about that flowers shot.
Heading down there is this one straight down trail.
A real rattlesnake with the wide head. Narrow heads are bull snakes.
A Shady spot with a bench and a view of a tree growing out of this rock.
Overlooking the Fort Morgan area all below. During the day you hear distant gunfire and what must be some occasional artillery shells being fired.
Yes, I do stop at the benches for a view.
Tank museum just outside the entrance to Fort Morgan. All nicely painted and kept clean.
