Crested Butte – Lower Loop and Lupine trails

July 20, 2019 – Crested Butte – Lower Loop and Lupine

There are so many trails in Crested Butte, it would take weeks to visit them. I stuck to favorites and the morning weather was fine. I took a second trail which I did not research at all, but it was straight uphill for 6 miles with switchbacks and lots of hike-n-bike segments. By the time I got to the top, I was out of water and out of enthusiam. Great exercise was had, and learned a lot about studying contour maps. Also used an iPhone App which was great at navigating anything you wanted to ride. Rode back direct to the room, took a good nap, and awoke to rain. A great day.

This is the well known and well travelled Lower Loop Trail.
July 19th and lots of snow still in the mountains.
Wildflowers is what makes Crested Butte such an great visit. It feels and reminds me of Aspen which is remarkably close. Everything is very green.
An ocean of yellow flowers.
Lupine Trail. The second most recommended trail, and entirely worth it.
Aspen, and wildflowers that in places come up to your shoulders.
Water is high as snowmelt continues.
Downtown Created Butte was a perfect mountain ski town. More Bicycles than cars.
I think this is the oldest bar in town. Establish around 1880’s.
Downtown if busy but not touristy.
I’m parked right there with the bike on the back. This is the view outside the European Style bed and breakfast. That is Mt. Crested Butte.
