Gunnison – Contour Trail

July 20, 2019 – Gunnison Colorado – Contour Trail

This day I needed a more casual trail and found this great trail accessible from town. It left Western Colorado University and ran for 15 miles along a contour line zig-zagging across an expansive landscape. I like this trail because of the views, but also it allowed a good rhythm for riding for exercise. I was very pleasantly surprised after the trail since I did not expect much, but received much in return. The photos can capture the expansive distances during the ride.

Just ahead and below is trailhead at Western Colorado University. Gunnison is seen here.
The distance here is awesome. Photos cannot capture the feeling.
The trail runs as along a contour line so there are no hills. It’s nearly flat.
Yep, more snow in the mountains can be seen.
The trail zigs and zags along the hills.
End of the line. I saw a couple of cyclists go farther but this is my snack and turnaround point.
A great trail, easy with a safe enjoyable pace.
Hmm. Something lost it’s backbone..
Western Colorado University was a nice surprise. Well developed campus and a new computer center being built there now. Hence the W on the mountainside.
Campus was green and well kept.
Getting dark. This is from a mini-ride I took in town when I arrived. Found a gem of a trail just north of downtown.
