Oklahoma University vs Iowa State Game

All planning around this weeks travelling was around this one game.

The roar of 80,000 rabid football fans was the goal. This Oklahoma University(OU) game against Iowa State exceeded the expectations. The student sections were full, the stadium was full. The Band had near to 400 band members, color guard, cheerleaders and more. I counted 8 XyloPhone tables. This was more exciting that any Bronco game I’ve been to. Yes, I wore red and a new OU cap to fit in with the crowd. A flyby of WWII fighter aircraft at the beginning of the the game. How lucky local residents are, to attend these games.

The University of Oklahoma’s fight song, “Boomer Sooner”, derives from these two names. The school “mascot” is a replica of a 19th-century covered wagon, called the “Sooner Schooner.” When the OU football team scores, the Sooner Schooner is pulled across the field by a pair of ponies named “Boomer” and “Sooner.” There are a pair of costumed mascots also named “Boomer” and “Sooner” as well.
