Memorial Weekend 2024
There is trail riding outside Blackhawk/Central City, just not in town! These small adjacent towns are dedicated to large casinos and there is literally nothing else. Outside of the casinos, there is 1 eatery, and a food truck. There are no business, no pizza joints, no T-Shirt Shops, literally the towns are devoid of things you might find in a small mountain town. I spent most of the time in Idaho Springs which as 5-miles away.
Several years ago, Colorado allowed limited Gambling in Central City/Blackhawk. In time several large casinos developed and built the properties and they are huge. Once inside a casino, they have a hotel, restaurants and plenty of gambling options. They are successful at keeping you in the casino property. The historic town of Central City however, is largely boarded up.
