The race event is often held in Minnesota, but this year it’s Leadville Colorado. At 10,200 feet or nearly two miles above sea level, the riding is tough until you get used to the altitude. The weather was phenomenal and great photos available nearly everywhere.
I enrolled in the Fun Race, but all the riders here are quite serious and the course was too much for me. I did one full lap and partly through the course, I learned that a lap on the the course was 3X the length I originally sampled the day before. I did not study the race course map enough as all. The day before I rode the course, or what I thought was the course, and estimated I could finish the 3 full laps without issue. Tactical error my part, but I did ride the course once, and enjoyed the great weather with like minded people.
Leadville is one of my favorite winter riding areas largely because of the local riding club. The Cloud City Wheelers
maintains a good network of trails and conduct grooming periodically. These trails dedicated to Fat Bike riding are the best. Most other trails and riding areas are essentially cross-county skiing trails, allowing bikes as a courtesy.
4-5 of these photos I downloaded from the race event website, there are 20 photos I took while in Leadville.
