Ski Joring – Leadville

It’s been snowing non-stop up here after my first AM ride around the Mineral Belt Trail. When I left for home it had snowed nearly two feet. The ride home was slow but safe. Newscasts had video from drivers along I-70 when an avalanche swept the highway. That was the day after I drove the same stretch.

Otherwise the events of the Crystal Festival weekend at Leadville well attended with people happy to stand out in the cold. I’m one of them.

I rode the Mineral Belt Trail soon after I arrived. Stopped only twice to wipe clear my sunglasses otherwise I was non-stop and did the full trail in less than 2 hours.

Ahh, the Mineral Trail nearing the highest point, nearly 11,000ft or two miles high.
Ski Joring – Point of start. This rider was more like a Jockey and got the horse to full speed quickly.
Point of Start with skier bracing for the sprinting horse pulling that rope.
Real Cowboys. The horses were running at a full gallop.
The skiers are skilled. Winning purse is around $5,000.
This is my happy place.
The Star – Spangled Banner – single noted with near perfect stratocaster overdrive. Done respectfully and phrased close to the melody line. This would be a good bucket list gig to have.
