Oct 5, 2020 – route 550 north out of Durango
Clear crisp weather makes for great photos of the peaking aspen in fall colors. Stop at the state park just south of the fast growing town of Ridgway. The State Park had some great trails and I managed to visit most of them. The camping opportunities here looked great as the abundance of trees and terrain told me to visit again and plan of camping. The trails were well marked and plenty trail side to educate you on the Ute Indian tribes that were original inhabitants here. After Ridgeway, I drove to Gunnison for an overnight at a cheap hotel for the ride home the next day in the morning. It’s a tough long ride from western Colorado back to Denver and Gunnison is becoming a favorite stopping point. The next morning it’s near freezing temperatures for the final drive of the trip.
