The Moonlight Loop -Friday : Chatfield

Clockwise around the Reservoir, starting around the Marina.  Best approach is to begin the ride 30 minutes prior to twilight. Shadows and light slowly change over a 2 hour span. The start gives plenty of twilight to photograph. More attempts completed at night photography with the tripod. Could not get the camera to be totally still as even a little wind seemed to move the camera. Most shots were ruined due to the long exposure setting. On the journey is the Slocum Cabin, and historic old log cabin with a great view.

The park was quiet with few visitors. Deer appear from wherever they spent the day.  The deer are alert and keep their distance but unfazed.  By dark only the camping crowd was stirring. Friday night there was about 2/3 moon and not very bright but clear. The rocky dropper trail from the Railroad to the bottom of plum creek was black.  There was that stretch of 50 ft where the sidewalk is under 4 inches of water.  I was familiar with that spot and knew there was little mud.

Riding the reliable fatbike fully rigged w lights.  I have developed a trust and confidence with these tires.  I left early intentionally this time and took some newfound side trails that I should have found before.

Slocum Cabin along the trail around Chatfield Resevoir, CO
Facing southwest with Chatfield ahead. The weather was mild breeze and perfect.
New? trail near the birding area. Too many felled trees and obstacles. Turned back.
The park plant life is pure front range Colorado. The evergreens were planted, but note their stunted growth because of the very dry climate.
Look at the newbie mistake this clown is making.
I think I need a lot of practice at nighttime shots.
Threw away 30 shots and only these two were worthy saving. Barely worthy placement into this blog.
Side trail brings to path. Open water just beyond.
