Ugliest Ride? – Sand Creek Greenway

I’m exploring most front range trails and today did and out and back on the Sand Creek Greenway Trail. It cuts East-West roughly from the S Platte Confluence along Sand Creek all the way to Aurora. It goes through Denver and Commerce City.

I’ve never been in this part of town and never on this trail. So I took lots of pictures. There are a few places where if springtime and the right viewpoint, there would be something beautiful to see. But not today. Weather was good and in the 50’s. There was temperature invesion in town so smog is beginning to gather close to the ground.

Beginning of my trail segment at Sand Creek Park. There are plenty of renovations occuring here.

The trail seems propped up against all odds. The path goes directly through Commerce City.

Sand Creek and the merge with S. Platte directly below me under the bridge.
Above: temperature inversion causes the smoggyness. Mountains barly visible in background.
Cherokee Power plant.
Above: a sliver of land was home to some tent dwellers.
Above is underpass of Vasquez Blvd near I-70. Not a comfortable place.
The trail runs alongside I-70 for quite a distance.
There is plenty of greenway portions that should be nice in the spring.

Above: End of the Trail, across the bridge is S Platte River Trail. This is where Sand Creek merges with S. Platte River.
And now the ride home back through the same scenery.
