Fruita 2016 – Colorado Natl Monument

This was a 6 hour ride through Colorado National Monument.

On first day, I rode to this halfway point. Turned back because I drank all the water I brought. It was hot.
Fruita Colorado ahead in the valley.
I think this is near where that man pushed his wife off the cliff to her death. Strange but true case, and it was somewhere in this park.
This is western Colorado, beginning to look like Moab which is 90 mins west of here.
On the days second attempt, I confirmed public water was at Devils Staircase. This is just after a grueling climb up the Staircase to be rewarded by this scenic point.
Upper Portion of Devils Staircase. Nearly toward the top plateau.
Yes, you do think about the rockface falling on you as you pass through.
There is like a 200ft drop to certain death directly on the other side of that knee-high rock wall.
Seems tight but since this is a National Park, everyone drives very mellow are slow as they are sightseeing also.
Successful round-trip from vistors center on southside, then up and back to Devil’s Staircase. Done on a Fat-bike in 90 degree weather. It’s around 20 mile trip overall with no water along the way. Took 4 hours tourist style.
